Tarinin – Anatoly Karpov
Zlatoust 1961
Closed Ruy Lopez, Chigorin

Anatoly Karpov grew up to be a tactical, positional, and, especially, a strategic chess genius. This game was played when he was very young though, when he was still a long way from being a precise super-engine he grew up to be.

It was an instructive closed Ruy Lopez, I which Karpov misplaced his knight and made his game very hard. He got punished.
