In this video lesson, the RCA guest coach IM Mateusz Kolosowski will analyze his own game played against a strong grandmaster in the Four Knights variation of the Sicilian Defense. The Sicilian Four Knights comes after the following moves: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 Nc6.
Mat explains how this opening variation could deviate to another popular variation of this chess opening, the Sveshnikov variation. He also explains how the Four Knights variation is currently not so popular and how that the Black player playing this variation could face some practical problems. Black has the risk of ending up having his King in the center, losing the ability to castle. And that is exactly how Mat checkmate his strong GM opponent in this game!
Also, since it is not so popular, you could play this opening as Black from time to time to surprise your opponents as they might not be well prepared for this.
