A new endgame episode is coming up every Thursday! To continue the series, I have decided to cover the absolutely essential endgames every tournament player must know.

In this video I have gone over the defensive technique devised and analyzed by Kling and Horwitz, two 19th century players and theoreticians. Their study was published in 1851.

The position analyzed is a “bad” version of a rook and pawn versus rook endgame for the defender, in which his king is unable to reach the 8th rank, in front of the pawn, and thus unable to reach a favorable Philidor drawing position.

I have covered similar positions too, and have covered the K&H on all files, showing the difference between them.

This defensive technique is not that well known, and mastering it will save you games!
