To continue the series on chess middlegames, I’ve decided to share my favorite middlegame training method. Something I’ve come up with myself and have developed over time. It has become (or I feel it has) the most useful, and the fastest way of improving my play.

It is advanced and time consuming, but it forces you to think about a position critically and thoroughly. If done repeatedly, I believe it will improve every aspect of your game! It’s done in 9 steps, you can find them below!

1. General assessment for white and black
– material
– king safety
– pawn structure
– piece activity
2. Detailed piece assessment for white and black
– describe every piece on the board in writing
3. Detailed assessment of key squares
and the pawn structure
4. Evaluation
5. Plans for both sides
6. Candidate moves
7. Move chosen
8. Comparison
9. Engine analysis

PS. Streams will continue every Thursday and Friday starting with February 27th!
New endgame episodes out every Thursday, new middlegame episodes every Friday!
