Today I played a very tricky and complicated training game in the Italian. I went for the positional Giuoco Piano, in which the whole position revolves around the center, and both sides prepare d4/d5 or try to prevent it. Whoever plays it first at the correct moment is usually better.

I failed to seize my opportunity to play a timely d4. Instead of that I went for a thematic positioning of my knights to g5 and f5. That turned out to be a mistake and my opponent got there first.

We entered a middlegame which was much better for him. But.
