Highlights from my coverage of round 2 of the WCC 2019. The winner will challenge the current female world champion, GM Ju Wenjun. Why the need for female-only events? Currently, only ~15% of competitive chess players are female. While women usually play in open events, occasionally exclusive events are organized to encourage greater female participation. Many believe the lack of female representation in chess stems from social factors such as being historically discouraged from playing. Others argue that men are biologically better, further perpetuating a harmful stereotype.
