Power of the Maróczy Bind | Training Game

A 15+15 training game in the Open Sicilian with a Maroczy Bind stranglehold setup for white.

I’m trying to play as many training games as possible before my tournament begins next week. I’m also playing a league game tomorrow morning, and I have prepared for my opponent already, so getting into calculating mode is what I need.

I tried to get a longer time control game in, but unfortunately it was 15+15 again.

I was white, and I played a very risky line against the Nc6 open Sicilian. The move f3, which can be relatively punished by black went unpunished (as it most often happens because people mostly don’t know how).

I was able to create a Maroczy Bind setup with a slightly better position. The key to the position was that black’s pieces were stuck on the first two ranks and more or less unable to move. I found a breakthrough on the queenside after he took my d5 knight, and from then on it was fairly easy to convert.
