Crushed in the Phillidor

A training game against the Phillidor defense (15+15).

I played a very bad training game. I faced the Phillidor Defense, which I like facing because I find it too passive for black.

I was slightly better out of the opening, even though I had problems developing my bishop to the best square and was concerned about counter play.

I wanted to follow up with the logical f4, expanding on the kingside and starting an attack, but I couldn’t make it work!

My opponent played really strong moves and, even though he had a worse structure and any endgame would have been better for me, I decided to risk with a kingside attack and it backfired.

Basically everything I did was a bad idea this game. It was a valuable lesson in the Phillidor (which I don’t have much experience against), and it is an incentive for me to improve my play against it!
