S. Tomic (1856 ELO) vs M. Juric (1705 ELO), French Defense, Tarrasch Variation
Split Chess Open 2018, Round 9, 08/19/18
I played a great attacking game against the French Defense in round 9 of the tournament. It was the final round and I wanted to win in order to have an ELO plus score and to feel good about the event.
I faced an opponent around 150 points lower rated than I am and I had time to prepare sufficiently.
I crushed him out of the opening, dominating on both sides of the board, and aggressively pushing my pawns up the board. He got a very bad position and was forced to give up an exchange to survive.
I ended up winning the second exchange tactically and thought I was just converting easily. But…
I gave up one exchange for his dangerous passed pawn. It was Rook and two vs knight and one. Easy. Right? Well, if we end up without pawns it’s a draw. I found a win in the end, but according to the engines, I gave him two chances to draw. Horrible.
