Z. Kalousek (2065 ELO) vs S. Tomic (1856 ELO), A11 English Opening, Caro-Kann Defensive System
Split Chess Open 2018, Round 6, 08/16/18
My opponent surprised me with his opening choice. He had faced c6 against the English before, and he entered the Panov Caro-Kann in that game (with e4). In this game, though, he played a system I wasn’t familiar with, nor have I been expecting it.
Nevertheless, I got out of the opening ok (I’ve forgotten to record the engine analysis which I mentioned in the video; my position was almost all zeroes until the exchange was lost. The only chance I had was to chase the knight from e4 with f5 early on. It would have led to a slight edge for me.).
It was an equal game and at one point, when it seemed we were going to play it out to a peaceful draw, I lost an exchange. Just a stupid blunder. A complete oversight. Just gave it up. Horrible.
I lost the game, of course.
