Wesley So and Fabiano Caruana were only 11 years old when this game was played! These were their chess beginnings and one of the first major tournaments they competed at.

The series on the modern masters will start with one of the greatest chess players today – Wesley So. He was born in 1993., and he began his chess career very early on. This tournament was one of the first major events he competed at. He finished in 13th place (Caruana was 10th), which was a great score. He will go on to become one of the strongest players in history in the following years. His progress and chess development will be covered in 40 games (40 videos) in this series, starting from age 11.

In this game he faced Fabiano Caruana, who was officially a stronger player than him (he was already an FM), but Wesley managed to crush him with the aggressive McDonnell Attack in the Sicilian Defense.
