Alexander Grischuk vs Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Queen’s Gambit Declined, Ragozin Defense, D38
2018 Chess Candidates Tournament, Round 7
Shakhriyar Mamedarov was in first place before round 7, with 4/6, and he reasoned that a draw is a favorable result with the black pieces. Having entered the game with such mindset he took the first opportunity to repeat moves and get a draw.
It was a highly theoretical Queen’s Gambit Declined Ragozin Defense, and 90% of the moves played were well known and played before, so it wasn’t really a proper chess game even!
Grischuk has definitely wanted to push for a win with white, but Mamedyarov forced him to repeat and agree to a draw.
