Alexander Grischuk plays the Benoni! ⎸2018 Candidates, Round 5

Levon Aronian vs Alexander Grischuk, Benoni Defense, A65
2018 World Chess Candidates Tournament, Round 5

To see the Benoni in such a strong event is a major surprise! One of the most volatile and unsafe openigns for black! The same weapon Bobby Fischer used to surprise Spassky in Round 3 of their match in Reykjavik.

The Benoni always produces fun games, and this one was no exception. The advantage switched from Aronian to Grischuk and back several times, but the end result was unfortunaltely a draw, after Aronian blundered with a move there is no explanation for. Instead of taking a piece with check, he just checked from a different square, blundering away the win!
