2018 Candidates tournament is under way and the first game to finish is the clash between Mamedyarov and Aronian, perhaps two of the biggest favorites; world’s number two with the highest increase in rating last year and Aronian, who most consider a worthy challenger for Magnus Carlsen.
It was a peaceful Nimzo-Indian (Qc2 classical), with a subtle novelty by Mamedyarov on move 11. Unfortunately, unlike in yesterday’s round, players were not as ambitious and they agreed to a quick draw after only 90 minutes of play.
