You will never manage to successfully complete your chess strategy goals if you only focus on one particular thing, or if you don’t use tactics. The first game analysed in this video between the French number one Maxime-Vachier Lagrave and Yu Yangyi is a perfect example of this.
Next, Romain looks at another positional chess game, this time between Grandmasters Alexander Galkin and Pavel Anisimov. In the first position examined in this game, Black has a weakness on the b5 square. The pawn there is weak and it forces Black’s rook to stay in its defense rather than create threats and play actively. What do you do when your opponent has a weakness but it isn’t enough to break through and win the game? You create another weakness!
Watch how Galkin expands on the kingside, opens up the h-file, makes more space for himself and ultimately wins the game in great positional style.
