English Opening (Agincourt) – Kramnik equalises against Giri, but…

Giri and Kramnik play a weird English which transposes twice. It starts as an Agincourt defense, turns into a symmetrical English, and then ends up being a Taimanov Sicilian-English hybrid.

The game was played in the 2018. Tata Steel tournament played in the Netherlands (Giri’s home ground).

Giri opened with c4 which he doesn’t do that often. He played it twice more in the same tournament and won all three games (!). Here are his games against Adhiban and Mamedyrov.
