Bacrot plays a Tal-like tactical miniature in the Giuoco Piano. Harikrishna plays well in the opening but makes several blunders which decide the game.

The Italian game is known for being either slow and maneuvering or a wild tactical game, this one was the latter.

A great example of how following opening principles will not suffice in giving you a pleasant middlegame unless you plan well ahead and mind your opponent’s threats on time.

Harikrishna has underestimated Bacro’s bishop pair which enabled him to create tactical possibilities which proved fatal in the end.
