I played a standard chess game as black with time controls set at 15 minutes with a 2 second increment. The opening played was the English Defense. White surprises as early as move 4. What would the surprise be? How should one approach atypical play? How might the thinking of a player with a development lead be influenced, and more importantly can this time edge be converted into something substantial like the win of a pawn?
