If you want to win more games and do it in style, then you need to learn to play more aggressively. Aggressive chess involves playing forcing moves, taking space, gaining time and making threats, all with the purpose of wiping your opponent off the board. It is the type of chess that legends Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov played and creates many memorable games.

Of course, there’s a big difference between aggressive chess and reckless chess. The latter is often seen by players who have the aggressive intent but lack the skill required to consistently find moves that work.

Aggressive chess requires the desire to impose your will on your opponent as a starting point but also needs a powerful attack strategy and the combinational vision to finish games off. The best way to get these skills is by studying games played in this style and this is the subject of “Aggressive Chess Domination”, a 2 hour DVD presented by GM Damian Lemos which clearly explains how to be active, consistently play the most forceful moves and put your opponent under the maximum pressure.

In this free preview, GM Lemos analyzes and comments on the awesome attacking game between Antal and Christian Bauer, which Bauer wins in just 24 moves.

Bauer starts the game on the Black side of a French Defence and, after slow play from White, takes his chance to chip away at the e5 pawn with f6, freeing his position and opening up the f-file in the process.

By placing his pieces on the squares with most attacking potential and making sure they stay active (13…Bf4!), Black gets an incredible initiative that allows all his pieces to burst forward, restricting White and opening dangerous lines against the King.

Sacrifices batter White’s King safety and kick his Queen around until the final blow forces him to resign in the face of inevitable checkmate. See if you can spot the winning tactics before they are played!
