Attack the Sicilian from the second move!
In the video “f4 Sicilian” by GM James Plaskett, we get to see a different way of playing against the Sicilian Defense as White.
Most of the time White plays the “Open Sicilian” characterized by 2. Nf3 and 3. d4 immediately. With the “f4 Sicilian”, White does a different, much more aggressive, attacking set-up to play against the Sicilian. Popularized by Grandmasters such as Miles, Nunn and Adams, it has a strong following.
At the beginning of the video, James shows the two main ways that Black alters his opening when White plays 2. f4 early in the game. The two main options are 2…d5 and 2…g6. Throughout the video, James shows how White can play against both of these main lines by Black.
What lines can White play to have an aggressive, attacking game? How should he set up his pieces so that he has the best positions possible? Watch the video to find out!
