In the video “Mastering the Endgame Series – Part 2” by GM Roman Dzindzichashvili, we begin to take a look at minor piece endgames.

Depending on which pieces are on the board for both White and Black, there are different rules to be followed in these endgames. One general rule that should always be followed, though, is to have an active king. These rules help us to create plans based on the position and what we should be trying to accomplish.

The first type of endgame we look at, is opposite color bishops. This endgame is known to draw a large percentage of the time, but there are a few ways that we can try to win. We are also shown the bishop vs. knight type of endgame.

What are the different principles and rules for the many different endgames that can occur? How does following each of these rules help us to play the best moves? Watch the video to find out!
