50 Years of Tal-Botvinnik Series

Jesse concludes his 50 Years of Tal-Botvinnik with a look at how it can help the student. He does this by showing his own victory over a FIDE Master and how the Botvinnik-Tal series helped him directly.

‘Giving his opponent the kind of position he does not want’ was something Jesse had learned from the Botvinnik-Tal matches and he also knew that his opponent ‘loves to play with the Initiative’ so Jesse’s choice of an offbeat King’s Indian that negates Black’s chances to use the Initiative and then to ‘attack as White’ proves to be a highly practical way of playing against that style of player.
