For the video I’ll be analyzing a great match between Nakamura and Adams that was played in the last round of the tournament. This victory over super GM Luke McShane, currently rated as England’s #1 player put him in 3rd place, an excellent showing for Hikaru
It started with the Slav Defense with the popular variation 4. a6 Nakamura applied a simple plan of play based on the fianchetto of his white bishop on the long diagonal. He then centralized his heavy pieces and breaks through the center with the strong 13. e4 obtaining a solid advantage in the middlegame.
His rival doesn’t have much of a choice but to sacrifice the exchange with b6 to obtain certain compensation. In this moment Nakamura simply reinforces his position, safeguards his king, centralizes his pieces and finishes off the game.
An excellent game by Hikaru Nakamura that I’m sure you’ll enjoy. Please leave any blog comments below and I’ll be sure to answer them. Don’t forget to like and share this article if you enjoyed the game.
