This week’s endgame video is on the important theoretical knight versus rook endgame.

A knight draws easily unless it is separated from the king and trapped, or when it is stuck
in a corner and lost because of zugzwang. It is therefore most resilient to stay in the center and to keep your knight and king together.

If you end up on the edge of the board, do not despair. It is still a draw! Just keep the two pieces together and there will be no way for the attacker to make progress.

Four ways to lose:
1. The king and knight are separated and the knight is lost
2. A knight on g7 or b7 for black and g2 and b2 for white
3. Both king and knight are in the corner
4. You allow a double attack and a pin on the knight
