Basic Checkmate Patterns 3 of 3 – Beginner to Chess Master #26

This is video #26 from the “Beginner to Chess Master” playlist. 9 basic checkmate patterns are illustrated via 24 examples. Are you familiar with the Opera Mate, Anderssen’s Mate, Dovetail Mate, Swallow’s Tail Mate, Epaulette Mate, Suffocation Mate, Greco’s Mate, Lรฉgal’s Mate, and Vukovic Mate? Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of these names. The names are not nearly as important as what the patterns look like on board! This is a 3rd and final group of basic checkmate patterns, and in general a beginning stage to help develop our pattern recognition in the game.

The illustrated examples are from http://lichess.org/practice

I’m a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly.
