GM Roman shows us the exceptional rules in Pawn Endgames. He starts off showing that it looks as though Black is completely lost but there is an incredible forcing stalemate idea.

Next up is an important way of winning against the Protected Passed Pawn – In other words a protected Passed Pawn is far better than the outside Passed Pawn in many instances. Next up care needed to avoid defenders’ clever defensive tricks.

Next up ‘Pushing all Pawns one rank up’ and the exceptional idea of prevention from ‘coming from behind’. Drawn positions when a side has 2 Protected Passed pawn is shown when the defender constructs a defensive barrier. Players of all abilities will find this useful.
